When I was just starting out in coffee roasting, I met Bharat through a friend. Bharat is a coffee farmer in Nepal and has a beautiful organic coffee farm in Dhading. After a few phone calls, we got to know each other a little and decided to collaborate. I'm particularly impressed by the way he manages his farm. Everything is done by hand here, simply because this way he can provide work (and therefore income) for as many people as possible.

During harvest season (April), his team of pickers visits the coffee plants daily to pick the ripest coffee cherries for you. After processing, the coffee is dried outdoors for a few weeks before being shipped to the Netherlands in burlap sacks.

This extremely labor-intensive process creates the incredibly rich flavor of this special coffee.

Curious about this coffee? Then visit The Field at Leiden Central Station. They make some fantastic coffees from this bean.

Namaskar !

About Himalaya Ontop Organic Coffee Estate

Himalaya Ontop Organic Coffee Estate Pvt. Ltd. is a recognized coffee farm situated in Himalayan country Nepal in Asia. A model pilot project in the county, environmentally friendly fair trade coffee production and tourism for developing the rural area based for helping the unskilled local women's and disadvantaged groups.

Himalaya Ontop Organic Coffee Estate is located in Nalang, Dhading which is 93 km from Kathmandu.

We grow 100% Caturra (Arabica) Coffee organically at an altitude of above 1100m to 1368m. Our coffee garden has been started on November 16, 2010 and now they are nearly five years' period. We have both red and yellow Caturra grown at our farm. Our coffee farm is completely faced on north side where we get fresh Himalayan air above 8000m.

Our coffee are all shade grown coffee and inspection variation depends upon the climate, rainfall, sunlight, temperature at the farm, environmental, higher and lower elevation and it does affect all the different inspection and the taste of the coffee. We are proud to tell you that, our coffee farm has particularly unique climate than any other farms in Asia and most probably the highest growing coffee in Nepal with very thin air and fresh air from the high Himalayas above 8000m under shade growth. So the coffee grown on thin mountain air ripes later so that is how our coffee beans should be one of the best coffee beans from Nepal.

We are exporting mainly green beans to our buyers to different countries like Norway, Denmark, and Australia. As we are growing coffee at a higher altitude, the coffee growing is slower and we generally harvest our coffee in 10 months' period after the tree begins the flowering so that how it makes our coffee which has very good flavor due to slow process in growing. We have also got compliments from different people from Europe that they find our coffee flavored good taste.

We are working based on social work to develop the rural community and most of the benefits goes to the area and we are a fair trade business holder. So we have mainly manual work from seeds to cup and by that reason the cost will be bit higher compare to other non-organic coffee product.
